About Us

OUR MISSION

Lothian Racers is a small club for swimmers with a physical disability, learning disability or sensory impairment, between the ages of 8 and 30 years.

Our objective is to help our swimmers develop their fitness and improve their technique in a friendy, supportive setting.  We love to see our swimmers improve - and potentially compete in galas in Scotland or even further afield.  Since the club started in 2009, some of our members have gone on to join the Scottish Disability Swim Squad or even compete at the Paralympic Games and Special Olympics.  But equally pleasing is to work with swimmers who want to keep fit, remain healthy and improve their swimming skills.

Lothian Racers is a very welcoming club for swimmers, parents and carers where lasting friendships have been forged.  The team spirit is especially evident at competitions when all club members support each other with great enthusiasm!

We train twice a week and currently have capacity to welcome new swimmers to our Thursday evening session at the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh.  We do not offer learn-to-swim sessions - new members must already be able to swim a length of the pool.

Lothian Racers is run entirely by volunteers who work as coaches, poolside assistants and administrators.  The fee for our Thursday evening session is currently £25/month.  Potential new swimmers are invited to a free three-week trial when they can meet the coaches and other swimmers and experience Lothian Racers training sessions.  It's all very friendly!
